The Tearoom

The Tearoom was the original kitchen of the house and over the years has been a dining room and common room for Pilgrim College. It had been sadly neglected and in 2018 was very damp and had a ceiling that looked as if it would fall in at any moment! In 2019 the ceiling was secured with five hundred screws and stainless steel washers then the whole room re plastered with lime plaster. This gave a blank canvas for the Friends of Fydell House to create a useful room. The Friends set to and painted walls, tidied the fire place and rescued cabinets from the garden shed which were painted to house some of their beautiful crockery. We purchased a carpet and chandeliers, tables and cloths, persuaded a friend to make window cushions and the Tearoom became a useful room. We purchased a professional grade picture hanging system and are now able to showcase the work of local artists and exhibitions of local interest.

On Wednesdays throughout the year the Friends of Fydell House provide home made cakes and light lunches, for example home made soup, baked potato, panini, quiche and salad. These can be eaten in the garden or Garden Room in the warmer months or in our cosy tearoom when it’s colder.
Refreshments may be available on other days for groups who pre book. Please contact us for further details.

A commemoration of the 1918 Armistice was held in the tearoom in November 2018 and this photograph shows the walls and ceiling prepared for the new coat of plaster.
